How we can help
We run a Self-Help Group online twice a week
We run an in person Self-Help group on the first Thursday of each month
We have a confidential Helpline (01494 793223) that is staffed 6-9pm everyday, and at some other times: 01494 793223
Please feel free to call during those hours or at any other time.
If there is no one available to speak to you when you phone, someone will try and call you back when a volunteer becomes available, unless you leave a message asking us not to contact you
If you are not comfortable talking to someone, we also offer a help and support service via email: support@eatingdisorderssupport.co.uk
All our services are staffed by volunteers who are trained in listening skills and many of whom have personal experience of eating disorders
Users of our services can feel safe and may talk freely. You can expect to be listened to and not judged. You can take your time to offload, to talk through your concerns, to feel heard, to get help with clarifying your options, to get support in the moment.
All our volunteers are trained and experienced in supporting individuals with an eating disorder
It can be helpful to share anxieties with a calm, friendly, non-judgmental independent person
We have information on what help is available to people with eating disorders
We can provide information packs, displays and give talks about eating disorders to schools or other organisations
We have details of counsellors who may be able to help
We are here to help sufferers and those who care for them – their family, friends, partner
Confidentiality within EDS
EDS offers a private and confidential service to you on our phone and email helplines and in our self-help group.
However, there are a few specific exceptional cases when we have a duty of care to break confidentiality, for example:
when the person contacting EDS is at risk of serious harm, either from themselves or others
if a child or vulnerable adult is at risk of serious harm/abuse.
We would always try and seek your consent first, wherever possible, and we would only share the relevant safeguarding information with the most appropriate professional.
If you have any questions about our confidentiality policy, please just ask us.
